We had an in-class leadership test conducted by our professor. At the end of the test it was determined based on my responses that I'm a high D low C in the D.I.S.C. profile. The High D represents dominance, generally these people are described as demanding, forceful, egocentric, strong willed, driving, determined, ambitious, aggressive, and pioneering. The low C represents conscientious and generally those with Low C scores challenge the rules and want independence and are described as self-willed, stubborn, opinionated, unsystematic, arbitrary, and careless with details.
I was once a supervisor in one of my previous jobs and I think most of the staff would agree with the results because these traits may have been put across a bit magnified. But truth be told I agree with the results because I see myself exhibiting those traits.
Do I wish I was another type? No. I'm pretty comfortable with the type of person I am and wouldn't want to change it for anything. Even if I wanted to change I don't believe someone can change who they are. One can try but you will only be pretending to be something you're not.
I do think it is helpful to determine people's management type especially when it comes to filling an open position in a company. Most cases management will know what personality type will produce the best results for which they are looking for. Therefore this assessment can be useful. Also it will help individuals to better understand the decisions made and their attitude towards other individuals or subordinates.
A test like this can help in other personal interactions since these traits can manifest itself in one's day to day interactions with other individuals. It can help you better understand why people and yourself react the way they do.

I definitely think you are have a dominant profile. From all of the class projects we have done I can tell that you are aggressive in your actions and accept challenges. You also made quick decisions and took authority, as in the case with the survival technique project. I can also see the Conscientiousness side of it because concrentrated on key details and encourage team work. Overall you are a great guy to work with in a group and you will stay that way because these are your own special attributes.
Your point about changing who we are is particularly interesting. Often we must maintain what sociologist Ervin Goffman referred to as "face work". This basically means that we must present the correct identity for each and every person and situation while at work or while simply participating in society. As I adapt my manners, demeanor, speech, even body language to the context of each social situation, I can't help but feel like a chameleon sometimes. However, if I were to just "be myself" I might not be able to manage/lead someone as effectively as I would if I change my approach (despite it not being my natural approach)to fit the situation. It can be argued that I would then not be who I really am. Nevertheless, it could also be argued that I am merely expanding my horizon by trying on a new personality to accomplish what is needed. No matter which side of the argument one would agree with, I think the important thing to remember is that we can try different approaches while interacting, but, just make sure we don't loose track of who we really are.
I certainly see you as conscientious. You are very thoughtful before you make a comment. I also see a level of dominance but in a nice, thoughtful way. I think you can go a long way with these traits.
